Tradewins Doll House Loft Bed

The case for the Dollhouse Loft Bed.

This bed is all over the internet and a lot of vendors sell this item but I wanted to put in my two cents about this bed. When customers see this bed online, they all say wow and they fall in love with it and place orders for it without really looking at the bed. Unfortunately a lot of local dealers do not carry this company and do not stock this item so it is a hard bed to find at the local furniture store. Where I worked, we used to carry this bed so I wanted to give an objective review of the bed.

The pluses:

  • It is really beautiful. The colors are very nicely done.
  • It has an integrated bookshelf which is neat.
  • It can accommodate up to a full size mattress and box with a metal frame underneath so you can use it as a bunk bed.
  • Instead of a ladder, there are little foot holes for climbing onto the bed (nice since there is nothing sticking out) but it does have some minuses which I will list below.

The minuses:

  • Don’t let the picture fool you, this bed is humongous!
  • Height is a whopping 94″ from the floor to the top of the roof.
  • Width is 81″ at the bottom and 87″ if measured from the roof overhang on each side.
  • The same foot holes that are nice since there is nothing sticking out is also a minus because a lot of children when climbing up onto the bed complain that the bottom of their feet hurt because it is not designed like a step on a traditional ladder.
  • You really need to use a full size bunkie board and a mattress if you want even a little bit of space between the bottom bed and the top bed. If you use a mattress, metal frame and a traditional box spring, there is very little space between the bottom bed and the bottom of the top bed.
  • Most internet vendors who ship these have seen a very high rate of damage since the boxes are just too big to handle. Half the time, the item arrives at a customer’s house damaged.
  • If you are not paying for assembly, this is a very difficult item to assemble. In fact at one point the manufacturer even tried to make a dvd to help.

Despite everything, this bed still continues to be a very strong seller but you may really want to consider other fun beds as an alternative. The biggest question is, when my daughter turns 12 years old, does she really want to be in a Doll House Loft Bed? You have to be realistic about how long this bed will actually last.
